Circle – Miljard

Continuing the last post, the other Circle album released recently is much more minimal, with no Miles Davis reference, psy-isms or even much drums around. The piano lines are climatic, drone guitars and some understated clattering lying around.

As Tower, this one is not exactly your usual ambient album, having similarities with the Touch crew or the contemporary piano composer that seems to be reproducing like bunnies.

As for two albuns that clock around two hours, it’s closer to filling the space than keeping things background. The pace is slower than Tower and the compositions are less based on repetition but equally rewarding.

Circle(featuring Verde) – Tower

I won’t loose time talking about what I don’t like, but one is for sure – metal, hole thing, makes me sick and probably with no exception. The funny thing is that I read so much fuzz about this Circle album and the other he released this year that I had to check out, specially ’cause it was said to be a departure, no trace of their metal past – and oh boy, it is.

First, you should expect loud guitar and all metal shit – there is none. Instead he got keyboards and electronics. Everything is loose and atmospheric, maybe psychedelic ambient drone would fit. The focus here is on repetition and the base are the keyboards, with light percussion and drums keeping the thing together.

My biggest shock listening this was thinking about electric Miles Davis! The structure here is much simpler, but it has a similar mood. Never getting boring, even keeping a similar pace through the entire album.

Oh, and surely no 'New wave of Finnish heavy metal' here.

One of the year’s favourites and probably the biggest surprise.

here is to share, so here it goes the first one. Someone asked for Machinefabriek and I have to say that it’s ridiculous to try to follow that guy, too much releases, like this other one. Anyway, it’s always interesting musicand he’s heading some really strange place.
